Hi readers!
Even though I was so looking forward to the upcoming colder months, there is one thing I am NOT looking forward to — the cold, flu and illnesses that always seem to become more common during this time of year.
Unfortunately, illness has hit me sooner than anticipated, as I am currently recovering from what has left me feeling fatigued, achy, headachy and generally under the weather.
While I’m definitely looking forward to feeling like myself again, I thought I would share some of the things I’m currently doing to look after myself while I recover.
1. Resting 🛌
I am not ashamed to admit it — I am terrible at resting!
I always like to have something to do or feel like I should be up and moving around. However, I’m trying to be more conscious of listening to my body and giving myself permission to rest.
Sometimes doing nothing really is the most productive thing you can do.
2. Taking my vitamins 💊
I’m continuing with my usual vitamins while I’m recovering. I see these as part of my general routine rather than a quick fix, and I’m trying to make sure I’m looking after myself as much as possible while I’m feeling unwell.
3. Herbal teas ☕
One of my current favourites is Pukka Wellbeing Tea, with lemon, ginger and manuka honey.
There’s something about having a warm drink when you’re feeling poorly that makes you feel a little more comforted. It’s definitely become part of my current cosy recovery routine!
4. Eating what I can 🍲
My food intake probably isn’t as high as usual at the moment because I’ve been feeling nauseous.
At the moment, things such as fresh fruit, wholemeal toast and soup have been making up some of my meals.
5. Getting some fresh air 🌿
I’ve been making sure that my room is well ventilated and opening the window when I can.
It also helps to get a little fresh air when I’m feeling up to it. Even something as simple as opening a window can make the room feel fresher and more comfortable.
6. Taking medication when I need it 💊
I’m currently using Lemsip cold and flu products to help manage my symptoms.
They’ve definitely been useful to have around while I’m feeling under the weather, although I always make sure to follow the instructions and check what ingredients are in any other medicines I’m taking alongside them.
Overall, I think the biggest thing I’m learning from being ill is that I need to let myself slow down.
It’s very easy to feel guilty about resting or think that you should be doing something productive, but sometimes your body simply needs time.
Hopefully, I’ll be back to my usual self soon and ready to enjoy everything autumn has to offer! 🍂
Thank you for reading!
Do you have any little comforts or routines that help you get through cold and flu season?
I’d love to hear them!
Hope everyone manages to stay as healthy as possible this autumn.
Thanks again,
Lauren x
